Nokia is a Finnish firm that began as a pulp and paper manufacturer in 1865. Over time, the company
...expanded into the rubber and cable industries, eventually merging to establish Nokia Corporation in 1967. Though the company started out with various business interests, by the mid-90s it had narrowed its attention to communications infrastructure, technological development, telecom equipment, and licencing.
The Finnish corporation entered the cellular network market in the late 1970s as one of the first to experiment and investigate telecommunication networks. The corporation assisted in the development of the world's first international cellular network, the Nordic Mobile Telephone (NMT) network, which linked the four Scandinavian countries. Nokia purchased Mobira, a Finnish mobile phone firm, in 1982.
In 1992, it introduced the Nokia 1011, the first commercially accessible GSM phone. Nokia co-founded Symbian Ltd in the same year to develop a new operating system for mobile phones and hand-held devices. In 2001, Nokia released the Nokia 9210 Communicator, which was powered by the Symbian operating system. Nokia 7650 was the company's first camera phone.
Nokia's mobile phone division was sold to Microsoft in 2011, and Windows Phone 7 was deployed as the dominant operating system on Nokia-branded devices.
However, HMD Global, a Finnish start-up founded by former Nokia executive Jean-Francois Baril, bought Microsoft Mobile's Nokia-branded feature phone business in 2016.
Nokia C01 Plus, which is the company’s latest offering, is priced at Rs. 5,999. It comes in two colours and runs on Unisoc SC9863A octa-core processor. It supports 4G connectivity and is powered by Android 11.
Apart from smartphones, the company also sells wireless earbuds.
