Apple starts selling refurbished iPhone XRs

Apple has started selling certified refurbished iPhone XR models in select colours and variants for the first time in the United States. These refurbished iPhone XR models are priced at a 16% discount as compared to originals, around $100 to $200 have been knocked off.

The refurbished iPhone XRs come in three variants - 64GB, 128GB and 256GB. The brand-new iPhone XR is only available in a 64GB, 128GB only, the 256GB option has been made unavailable. The iPhone XR was launched in all three variants in 2018, but when Apple moved the iPhone XR to the lower-priced segment in September last year, the 256GB model was discontinued.

As far as these refurbished iPhones are concerned, the 256GB version is only available in Black. All the new refurbished ‌iPhone XR‌ models come carrier unlocked and without a SIM, so they can be activated with any carrier of your choice.

Apple has said that all these refurbished iPhones are “thoroughly inspected, tested, cleaned and repackaged with a new white box and all manuals and accessories”. Apple is also installing a new battery, a new outer shell etc and the company says that you will not be able distinguish between a refurbished device and a new one.

These refurbished iPhones will come with Apple's standard one-year warranty that will kick in when the device is delivered and this can be extended with AppleCare+ for $149 or $7.99 per month. Upgraded ‌AppleCare‌+ with theft and loss coverage is available for a flat rate of $249 or for $12.99 per month.
