Asus ROG Phone 5 gets the first firmware update since the launch

The latest update to ROG Phone 5 brings improvements to camera and charging stability. It also brings a special e-sports mode.

Asus is rolling out the first firmware update to ROG Phone 5, which launched just a couple of days ago. The latest update brings a wide range of improvements, including an e-sports mode and optimised camera capabilities.

According to Asus, the update is being rolled out in batches. The update, firmware version 18.0830.2101.73, is likely to be available to all units in the coming weeks.

“Since the server pushes update notice to different serial numbers by batches, it may take some days for you to receive the FOTA notice. Thanks for your patience. You may tap “System updates” in [Settings] >[System] to check if there is new firmware available. Or, you can also try to manually update firmware by referring to the following link,” said Asus on its forum.

As said earlier, the update brings a variety of new features. The changelog says the update brings enhancements to the advanced settings of system modes in Armoury Crate. The company has also added an animation editor for ROG Vision in the crate and now supports import and share functionalities.

The update also brings a new set of motion control gestures in the AirTrigger 5. The e-sports mode essentially a customised mode for e-sports that can be activated through the power button menu screen during the gameplay.

Asus ROG Phone 5 users can also notice optimisations in system stability, charging stability, ROG Vision, and camera experience.

Asus ROG Phone 5 is the base model in the new lineup that also features ROG Phone 5 Pro and ROG Phone Ultimate.

The phone has a 6.7-inch AMOLED display with 144Hz refresh rate, 300Hz touch sampling rate, HDR 10+ and Corning Gorilla Glass Victus protection. The display has a 20:5:5 aspect ratio.

For performance, the handset runs on Qualcomm's top-end Snapdragon 888 processor with up to 12GB of RAM. It comes with up to 256GB of storage. It packs a 6,000mAh battery with 30W charging support.

The ROG Phone 5 sports a Sony IMX 686 64-megapixel primary sensor at the back with f/1.8 aperture and 1.6um pixel size + 13-megapixel ultra-wide sensor + Macro sensor. The handset can also shoot 8K video. At the front, you get a 24-megapixel camera.
