Android device performance lags behind Apple: Report

According to the report, Android devices recorded a failure rate of 44 percent compared to a 25 percent device failure rate for iPhones in the first quarter of 2016. The failure rate for Android was the highest in Asia with 55 percent up by 50 percent from the last quarter in 2015.

Apple smartphones suffer from a significantly lesser number of failure rates than Android devices, a new report from Blanco Technology Group showed.

According to the report, Android devices recorded a failure rate of 44 percent compared to a 25 percent device failure rate for iPhones in the first quarter of 2016. The failure rate for Android was the highest in Asia with 55 percent up by 50 percent from the last quarter in 2015.

Asia is followed by Europe and North America with 35 percent and North America with 27 percent.

In the Android portfolio for failures, Samsung accounted for nearly 43 percent of device failures in the first quarter of 2016 with Galaxy S6 and S5 being the most common devices to suffer from crashes. Lenovo's K3 Note followed the Galaxy series with six percent and Motorola's Moto G with five percent. Samsung's S6 Active took the fifth spot with four percent of the crashes.

One the other hand, the iPhone 6 and 5s had the highest failure rates of iPhones, accounting for 25 percent and 17 percent respectively. While this number seems higher than Android devices; this was due to Apple having fewer models, as well as a lower overall failure rate.

The report about stable operating system assumes significance because app developers may be less likely to build apps for the less stable ecosystem. The report showed that apps, especially social and messaging apps, crashed on 74 percent of Android devices though this could be attributed to heavt usage rates.
