App in focus: Juggernaut Books
Juggernaut Books lets you pick from original new titles as well as some classics
Publisher Chiki Sarkar's exit from Penguin Random House and the announcement of her new venture, Juggernaut Books, caused considerable news. Now, Juggernaut Books has rolled out an android app (iOS coming soon) that lets you pick from original new titles as well as some classics.
On sign up, the app offers to customise your news feed (home screen) through tags like fiction, humour, kids and crime. Over a hundred authors have their works on the app so far, with books also sorted by sections like long commute, night reads, and bathroom reads.
We bought actor Sunny Leone's collection of erotica short stories (₹00). Purchasing through a debit card was smooth. The text is easy to read, thanks to the app's neat design. Apart from customising font size and background colour (cream comes closest to reading an actual book), there's an option to mark highlights, and share them with your phone's contacts.
The app has an option to continue reading, but a big drawback — and a crucial one at that — is that we didn't find an option to mark where we want to leave the book and come back.
You can rate books, write reviews and even gift it to a friend. But the most interesting feature is the Q&A section with authors, where readers can post questions. A soon-to-be launched option will also let you publish your writing to Juggernaut through the app.
