Apple Watch delayed in India because of lack of interest: Report

The Apple Watch is expensive -- it starts at $349, or about ₹ 23,000 -- in the United States, but that's not the only reason Apple still hasn't brought it to India. This is despite previous reports that Apple would soon launch the Watch in India.

According to sources in the Apple supply chain who spoke to India Today, Apple hasn't released the Apple Watch in India yet because...no one really cares about it. At least that's what Apple's channel partners in India think. India Today says that these partners aren't convinced about the interest in Apple Watch in India and aren't willing to buy a ton of inventory for an expensive wearable product when the category itself is still extremely nascent in India.

Indeed, according to IDC, Apple shipped 3.6 million units of the Apple Watch in the last quarter, second only to Fitbit, which shipped 4.4 million units of its fitness trackers (and launched in India only recently).

On the other hand, Chinese smartphone maker xiaomi's fitness band, which sells in India for just ₹ 999, shipped 3.1 million units.
