Apple’s iPhone 7, starting at 60,000, to hit Indian shores on October 7

In India, the new iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus will be available from October 7 in silver, gold, rose gold and the new black finish in 32GB, 128GB and 256GB models starting at 60,000 and the new jet black finish will be offered exclusively on the 128GB and 256GB models from Apple Authorised Resellers and select carriers.

Finally the cat is out of the bag and some good news comes along from the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium, San Francisco.

It is where the Cupertino-headquartered Apple's CEO Tim Cook took to the stage to launch Apple's next generation of iPhones -- the 7 and 7 Plus. The new devices will be available in silver, gold, rose gold and the new black finish in 32GB, 128GB and 256GB versions starting at 60,000, while a new jet black finish will be offered exclusively on the 128GB and 256GB versions from Apple Authorised Resellers and select carriers.

So the good news is not just the launch of newer, smarter iPhones, but also the pricing, which is nearly the same prices as the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus which is $649 and $769. The new iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus will hit Indian shores on October 7.

The technology giant announced 10 incremental and new features with the new iPhones. Apart from the new phones being waterproof and dust resistant, the devices will come with a much faster 64-bit A10 fusion processor which is 40% more faster than the previous A9 chip and twice as fast the A8 chip on iPhone 6. The new processor also improves graphics performance by 50% when compare to A9 and is at least three times faster than the the A8. Apple also claimed that the new processor is more efficient and will help provide more battery life. Hence expect at least two more hours of usage on the iPhone 7 and one hour more usage on the iPhone 7 Plus.

"iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus dramatically improve every aspect of the iPhone experience, reaching a new level of innovation and precision to make this the best iPhone we have ever made," said Philip Schiller, Apple's senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing.

"The completely redesigned cameras shoot incredible photos and videos day or night, the A10 Fusion chip is the most powerful chip on any smartphone while delivering the best battery life ever in an iPhone, and an entirely new stereo speaker system provides twice the sound, all within the first water and dust resistant iPhone."

What's more is the force-touch Home Button. This will allow third party applications to introduce new functionalities and experiences on the device. "The solid-state Home button is designed to be durable and responsive, and working in tandem with the new Taptic Engine, which provides more precise and customisable tactile feedback," Schiller explained.

The company also announced incremental changes to the camera and announced a first dual-camera for the iPhone 7 Plus. Both the smartphones will come with optical image stabilisation (OIS) contrary to earlier leaks that OIS will only come on the Plus variant.

"The 12-megapixel camera includes optical image stabilisation on both iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, and a larger ƒ/1.8 aperture and 6-element lens enable brighter, more detailed photos and videos, and a wide colour capture allows for more vibrant colours with more detail. iPhone 7 Plus features the same 12-megapixel wide angle camera as iPhone 7 and adds a 12-megapixel telephoto camera that together offer optical zoom at two times and up to 10 times digital zoom for photos," an Apple spokesperson said during the launch adding that the company would add a new depth-of-field effect later this year.

The effect will use both cameras on iPhone 7 Plus to capture images, while sophisticated technology including Machine Learning separates the background from the foreground to achieve amazing portraits once possible only with DSLR cameras. The camera unit also gets support from a new Apple-designed Image Signal processor, which processes over 100 billion operations on a single photo in as little as 25 milliseconds, resulting in better photos and videos.

In terms of the front camera, the device will come with a 7-megapixel FaceTime HD snapper with wide colour capture, advanced pixel technology and auto image stabilisation for better selfies. "The cameras will also get addded support for low-light photography from the new quad-LED True Tone flash which is 50 percent brighter than iPhone 6s including an innovative sensor that detects the flickering in lights," the spokesperson explained.

The company has also tried to enhance the audio experience of the device. The new iPhones will come with stereo speakers which is twice as loud as the iPhone 6s, offering increased dynamic range of sound and a higher quality speakerphone. The new iPhone also comes with EarPods with Lightning connector to deliver incredible sound, as well as a 3.5 mm headphone jack adapter that allows customers to use old headphones and accessories. So, the 3.5 mm jack is histroy.

The wireless AirPods features Siri on double tap and comes with the new Apple W1 chip that offers better connection, improved sound and battery life. The AirPods including charging case will be available for 15,400 beginning in late October. All iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus models will include EarPods with Lightning Connector and a Lightning to 3.5 mm Headphone Jack Adapter, also sold separately for 2,500 and 900, respectively. Apple also launched three new wireless Beas headphones -- Beats X, Powerbeats and Solo Beats.

Another upgrade on the new iPhones is the display. Finally, the phones will get a Retina HD display with a wide colour gamut for cinema-standard colours, greater colour saturation. The phones will run on Apple's latest iOS 10 operating system which promises to offer lot more functionality.

Other Apple-designed accessories including leather and silicone cases in a range of colours will be available starting at 2,900 and iPhone 7 Smart Battery Case will come in black and white for 8,900. Lightning Docks in several colour-matching metallic finishes will also be available for 3,700.

Pre-ordering of the phone will start on September 9 and Apple will start selling phones from September 16.
