Note-taking application maker Evernote and social magazine app maker Flipboard announced the launch of new mobile applications for the iPhone on the first day of European internet conference LeWeb.

Flipboard CEO Mike McCue was at the conference to show off the company's latest achievements: a made-for-iPhone version of its popular Flipboard iPad app and a new feature called Cover Stories.

'Think of Cover Stories as the feed to check when you're in line at the coffee shop, commuting on the train or just hanging out at home,' said Flipboard in a December 7 blog post. 'It contains a constantly updated selection of interesting articles and photos being shared with you right now.'

Like its iPad predecessor, Flipboard for the iPhone aggregates feeds from your social networks, favorite publications and photo sharing sites, and presents them in a visually engaging, iPhone-sized magazine.

More than 4.5 million people -- that's one in ten iPad owners -- have already downloaded the Flipboard iPad app.

Evernote CEO Phil Libin took the wraps off two new iOS apps at LeWeb: the Evernote Hello App and the Evernote Food app.

Evernote Hello is designed to help you remember people. It does this by storing contact details, but more importantly by linking the when, where and who with the person's name.

The second app, Evernote Food, is all about documenting and sharing memorable 'food moments.'

'Evernote Food is all about preserving the experiences, thoughts and memories that accompany food,' explains Andrew Sinkov in a December 7 post on the company's blog.

The app can be used as a personal recipe list (complete with step-by-step photos), as a food tracker to help you count calories or as a food and travel journal to make sure you never forget where you had that amazing meal.

Flipboard for iPhone is available now for free in the App Store. Evernote Hello and Evernote Food are also available as free downloads in the App Store.

In other mobile app news, Google has updated its Google Goggles for Android mobile app and now features 'continuous mode, improved text recognition and contributed results,' and Instagram Chief Executive Kevin Systrom announced that the company is currently working on an Android version of the popular photo editing and sharing app.
