, as more and more recruiters are using them to lure prospective candidates.

With India Inc lifting recruitment freezes, social networking sites are becoming popular channels to reach fresh staff base. For example, all positions for BPO Company 24/7 from all its centres have been advertised on Facebook and Twitter.

Ranjeet Singh Rhal, a headhunter, explains that employers frequently visit social networking sites like Twitter, Orkut and Facebook. "Once we find the profile that we feel will fit the job profile offered, we get in touch with the concerned individual and get

information about the person," he explains.

Ankita Tanwar, 25, won an audition on a popular radio channel after her tweets screamed for employers to hire her on the basis of her conversational talent. An RJ saw the tweets and asked her to come in. "I am still waiting for them to get back but my tweet ensured that I got to bypass the employment lines and the whole sending resume process."

A piece of advice from headhunter Nancy D'Cruz: don't lie. More often than not, your CV will still hold value and will be verified. Also, background checks are done by going through tweets to ensure that there are no skeletons buried somewhere.

"We need people with determination, people who are go-getters and those with a serious outlook to life," says Natasha Pereira, HR officer in an multi-national company. "Social networking sites help us understand if the people we pick suit these roles via an informal platform," she says.
