Google's cloud-based storage service will now be offering users triple the amount of free storage space, bringing the total to 15GB.

The announcement came via Google on Monday, when the company stated that the capacity to store files on Drive will increase from 5GB to 15GB per user for files across its document creation/ curation service Dive, its email provider Gmail and Google's Social network, Google +.

The company also announced that storage space for businesses that are using Google Apps will see their storage space, across the same three services, increase from 25GB to 30GB.

This announcement came a few days before Google I/O developers' conference which takes place May 15-17 in San Francisco. The conference has typically been an occasion to gather together Google's developer community to further explore the newest tools provided by Google but over the years evolved to also become an occasion to announce big launches such as Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich in 2011. However the tech community largely expects this year's event to return to the Google I/O conferences of old by returning the focus back onto the developer community.
