New Delhi Google Photos may soon become more enticing to select Android users. According to a media report, the Mountain View-based company has hinted that it intends to allow some of its free users to store unlimited photos in the cloud in full-resolution. There's one catch, though.

The speculation comes as folks at Android Police found text buried in the code of the Photos app (version 1.21). "With Nexus, back up all you want! Unlimited free storage for original quality photos & videos upload from your Nexus device," the description reads. This suggests that the feature will be available to users who own a Nexus device.

As you may recall, Google revamped its Photos app at I/O developer conference last year. In addition to a number of features for the photo sharing and storage service, Google also announced that it is allowing users to store unlimited images to the cloud. As part of the plan, however, users with a free account could only upload images with a maximum of 16-megapixel, and videos with up to full-HD (1920x1080 pixels) resolution. If a user uploaded an image or a video with higher quality, Google would automatically downgrade it. Users can, of course, choose to retain the original quality of the image by paying for Drive storage.

Google is mum on when -- and if -- should users expect to see this feature. But if it is indeed on the cards, this would be a neat promotion for the company's branded phones and tablets. Though, at this point it is not clear which Nexus models will be eligible for this feature.

Over the months, the Android-maker has grown increasingly focused on streamlining its photo services. Earlier this year, it announced that Picasa, another photo service it owns, will be discontinued.
