LG launches high-end smartphone

LG Electronics on Thursday launched its flagship high-end smartphone, Optimus G Pro, in India as the firm sought to offer stiff competition to the likes of Samsung, Apple, Nokia and BlackBerry amidst the target to triple its market share in the segment. HT reports.

LG Electronics on Thursday launched its flagship high-end smartphone, Optimus G Pro, in India as the firm sought to offer stiff competition to the likes of Samsung, Apple, Nokia and BlackBerry amidst the target to triple its market share in the segment.

Priced at 42,500, LG Optimus G Pro is essentially targeted at the premium category customers and will take on Samsung's Galaxy S4, Apple's iPhone 5 and Nokia's Lumia 920, among others.

"We plan to launch up to 30 new smartphone models by end of 2014," said Soon Kwon, managing director of LG India. Kwon added that the company aims to capture 10% share in India's smartphone market over the next year and half.

The company's current smartphone market share is less than 5% in India - where the industry expands at a breakneck speed of 98% annually.

LG also plans to launch a smartphone targeted at value consciuos customers.
