Satya Nadella speech highlights: Sangam, and Skype Lite launched

On Tuesday, Nadella and Flipkart co-founder and CEO Binny Bansal announced that the two companies will be partners on the cloud – Flipkart will exclusively be using Microsoft Azure as its public cloud. Nadella also met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad, assuring the government of its initiatives in healthcare and education.

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella will deliver the keynote address on day two of Future Decoded. Nadella is likely to speak about Microsoft's enterprise initiatives in India with a focus on cloud-computing for enterprises, though there could be an India-centric announcement as well for the consumer side.

11:10 am: Nadella concludes with the 9 dots story and now Andra CM Naidu is on stage.

11:05 am: Project Sangam demonstration starts. An executive launches the service with Aadhar Praman service from Microsoft, then creates a LinkedIn Profile and then enrols under courses for skill training. Lessons can be downloaded for offline viewing. Salary and location are also matched after the courses are taken and then jobs are recommended. The candidate's profile is also shared with the employer. The project is still in private preview.

10:59 am: "LinkedIn also plans to launch a placements app for college graduates. Microsoft will also launch a new programme called Project Sangam and it will help Indians to skill themselves for jobs available." It will be an open ceosystem where trainers can pour their content into Sangam and people can take the training right from Sangam and apply for jobs.

10.56 am: Nadella moves to skills and jobs and starts on LinkedIn. India has 39 million LinkedIn users. "It is going to help them focus on economic opportunities. LinkedIn India is creating products just for India and the first one is LinkedIn Lite -- another tool that will help people connect from low connectivity zones in the country," says Nadella.

10:51 am: "Microsoft has contributed using TV Whitespaces technology to provide internet in 32 rural villages in Maharashtra."

10:50 am: Skype Lite can verify Aadhaar data on the go in the form of OTPs generated more like ordering food or using Paytm. You can chat with 'Aadhaar Verified' users on both the regular Skype app and the new Skype Lite app while interacting for job interviews, government services and other services.

10:47 am: "Skype will now support Aadhaar. Skype Lite to come in to help people connect in poor network areas and it is going to come with Aadhaar capabilities."

10.40 am: "Financial sector is changing as well. Cloud helps in financial inclusion and take advantage of data for making advanced decisions. Cloud is changing how banks work. State Bank of India is moving to the cloud."

10:34 am: SMBs are the blood of any economy, says Nadella. "I came across the story of Mohini Tea Company in Uttar Pradesh. Cloud has helped them in making procurement easy by avoiding paperwork that took weeks."

10:32 am: "I had a chance to meet an entrepreneur who is reshaping healthcare. The entrepreneur is using data to reshape diagnostic capabilities. The fact that diabetes can be monitored in a more effective manner can reshape healthcare," says Nadella.

10:31 am: Nadella praises Aadhaar and India Stack that is helping in making digital payments popular.

10:30 am: Nadella focusing on the cloud business of Microsoft in India. Talks about how Microsoft Azure will be used by Flipkart. This was announced yesterday.

10:28 am: "We are going to talk about the global cloud infrastructure that we setup in India 17 months earlier. The cloud plays an important role in shaping the digital transformation of the country."

10:27 am: "I had a product of Microsoft reaching me when I was growing up. But is what others do with this technology. We aspire to create productivity for people."

10:25 am: Satya Nadella takes the stage. "Every time I come to India, the thing that impresses me the most is the energy and the fast-paced growth of the country. Today we are going to talk about technology and most of it will be around cloud."

10:23 am: Reddy also says that remote care or tele-medicine is also changing. "E-PHCs are also coming up and with the help of machine learning we will bring new cures ," she said, adding that Apollo have plans for a integrated healthcare delivery model.

10:22 am: "Healthcare is changing to prevention rather than sick-care in India. Government is working to make sure that healthworkers land in doorsteps to help people early and make them aware about diseases' symptoms."

10:05 am: Anant Maheshwari, President, Microsoft India is now on stage giving a glimpse of what is happening around Make in India and Digital India. "We all have an equal opportunity in making digital in India," he says.

10:03 am: Microsoft President for India Anant Maheshwari on stage: "I keep hearing this is a new Microsoft, one we've not seen before. Our mission is to empower everyone, every organisation. It reflects in the way we do things today."

9.40 am: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis are also going to be present at the event. Microsoft will have a live-stream on YouTube for the keynote.

9.30am: We are waiting for the Microsoft event to start. Satya Nadella is expected to make some big announcements at the Future Decoded event. Microsoft has been working closely with government agencies in India as well, and we could hear some news around this.
