The style of the short embedded video sharing that Vine enables is proving popular throughout the tech world. Recently it was announced that, in the absence of an official Vine application, an unofficial app called 6Sec had been created for users of Windows Phones and updated so that users could create and share their own short videos on Vine, rather than, as was previously the case with unofficial Windows Phone Vine apps, simply watch content created by others.

An application very similar to Vine was also launched in China recently by AVOS Systems, a company founded by YouTube founders Chad Hurley and Steve Chen. Called Wan Pai, the app (which is free on iOS and Android) enables users in China to share content to a number of local social networks such as the Twitter-style Sina microblog.
