The game charts the demise of the Transformers' home planet, and Grimlock is presented as a fighter whose sole purpose is to get up close and personal with his enemies.

Fans will be hoping that studio High Moon Studios return to their best form with Fall of Cybertron, free from the constraints of working on a film tie-in as was the case with 2011's Transformers: Dark of the Moon.

Of all the robot-centric action games releasing in 2012, and there are a fair few, Fall of Cybertron carries the greatest amount of mainstream cache.

Armored Core V, MechWarrior Online, MechWarrior Tactics and Steel Batallion: Heavy Armor all feature mechs -- giant, mechanical suits of armor -- and all have proud histories, while newcomer Hawken has been generating considerable buzz among the PC gaming community.
