Microsoft is rolling out Windows 10, its shiny new operating system in waves, which means not everyone's getting it on day one.
To get around this, some of us tried to upgrade our systems by grabbing the official ISO file directly from Microsoft's website. Everything went great, until we ran into this existential error message.
Congrats, @Microsoft, on setting a new standard for unhelpful error messages. This will never be topped. #Windows10pic.twitter.com/A24Ez6tqMn

Yep. That's it. No other explanation. Seriously, it seems like a generic error message but the phrasing makes it look like it was hastily cobbled together by an intern about a minute before their lunch break.
According to the buzz on Twitter, you won't get this message if you simply do an in-place upgrade through Windows Update (not through the ISO). In the meantime, the rest of us are scratching our heads — and laughing our guts out.
