Threatened! When Elon Musk shockingly targetted Indian origin Vijaya Gadde at Twitter
Elon Musk has fired the legal head Vijaya Gadde from Twitter. But this move appears to be inspired from past animosity.
Just moments after closing the $44 billion Twitter acquisition, Elon Musk has promptly fired top officials from the company. Among those fired are the legal affairs and policy chief Vijaya Gadde and CEO Parag Agrawal. The sacked individuals had been earlier accused by Musk of misleading him and Twitter investors over the real figures around bot and fake accounts. Shockingly, way back in April, 2022, when news first broke of Musk's bid to buy Twitter, Musk had even publicly tweeted against Gadde, attacking her for the way Twitter is run and blocking certain personalities on the social media platform. It sparked a flurry of online attacks on Gadde.
The new Chief Twit's social media outspokenness is not new. He is known for tweeting out his opinions on subject matter ranging from population growth to sensitive geopolitics. During the entire Twitter deal saga, he took to the social media platform to complain about various aspects of the Twitter deal, including fake bots, Twitter's censorship and ‘left leaning bias'.
Elon Musk publicly targeted Vijaya Gadde on Twitter
After Gadde appeared on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast, Elon Musk posted a meme on the social media platform attacking her for her role in banning Donald Trump from the microblogging site. In a separate tweet, Musk also said that “Twitter censored free speech”. The public attack by Musk led to many users launching racial slurs, harassment and hateful comments against the Indian-origin Vijay Gadde.
Matters got so out of hand that then-CEO Parag Agrawal had to intervene and defend Gadde from the hateful comments. Agrawal praised the difficult work of his employees and appreciated them for continuing their hard work despite the “noise”.
In a tweet, he said, “I took this job to change Twitter for the better, course correct where we need to, and strengthen the service. Proud of our people who continue to do the work with focus and urgency despite the noise”.
Even the former CEO of Twitter, Dick Costolo jumped in to defend Gadde and criticize Musk for his targeted tweeting. Replying to the meme posted by Musk, he tweeted, “what's going on? You're making an executive at the company you just bought the target of harassment and threats”.
