Trump to act on Chinese software companies in coming days, says Pompeo
As per a separate report, the US President is expected to sign an executive order banning TikTok as soon as the coming Saturday.
President Donald Trump will take action shortly on Chinese software companies that are feeding data directly to the Beijing government, posing a risk to US national security, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said on Sunday.
"President Trump has said 'enough' and we're going to fix it and so he will take action in the coming days with respect to a broad array of national security risks that are presented by software connected to the Chinese Communist Party," Pompeo said on Fox News Channel's "Sunday Morning Futures."
As per a separate report, the US President is expected to sign an executive order banning TikTok as soon as the coming Saturday. Trump's statement came shortly following negotiations between ByteDance, White House and the potential TikTok buyers including Microsoft.
"Not the deal that you have been hearing about, that they are going to buy and sell... and Microsoft and another one. We are not an M&A (mergers and acquisitions) country,” Trump said as per a separate Reuters report.
The move comes amid the deteriorating relations between Washington DC and Beijing.
The US has already shunned Huawei from participating in its 5G network. It has also prohibited US-based companies from selling components to China-based companies. After hardware, the Trump administration is now going after the software firms.
