So, the next time you need to play lossless music (FLAC) or mkv on a Chromebook, don't bother converting, just download the VLC app and you're good to play almost any format under the sky.

Unlike on desktops, the VLC asks Chromebook users to select a directory from which it builds the media index -- much like their app. It also supports multi-track audio and subtitles, auto-rotation, aspect-ratio adjustments and gestures to control volume, brightness and seeking.

VLC for Chrome runs offline to play media from the local storage or flashdrive. The app's widget lets you control audio, supports headsets controls, cover art and a complete audio media library.
