The studio behind the 'Supreme Commander' and 'Dungeon Siege' series is looking for fan contributions towards latest project 'Wildman,' a caveman-themed cross between two disparate genres.

The upper echelons of Kickstarter's most-funded video game projects are awash with titles from well-established designers.

'Project Eternity' raised $3.9m and its crew can trace its video game involvement back to influential role-playing titles 'Baldur's Gate' and 'Planescape: Torment.'

Similarly, the 'Double Fine Adventure' ($3.3m) was proposed by Tim Schafer and his Double Fine studio, calling on a reputation that stems back to 'The Secret of Monkey Island' and 'Day of the Tentacle.'

In the case of 'Wildman,' Chris Taylor's Gas Powered Games outfit was responsible for role-playing game 'Dungeon Siege' and its sequel, as well as real-time strategy title 'Supreme Commander' and 'Supreme Commander 2.'

'Demigod' was the studio's crack at merging the two genres in 2009, and though the blend is not widespread, several titles have managed to combine elements from both successfully -- 'Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II,' 'Total War: Shogun 2' and 'WarCraft III' among them.

There's another link to the 'Warcraft' series, in that Gas Powered senior artist Kevin Pun has credits on several Blizzard games including 'WarCraft,' 'Diablo' and 'StarCraft,' three foundational titles in the action role-playing and real-time strategy genres.

Gas Powered Games has until February 15, 2013 to raise the $1.1m it requires to fund 'Wildman.'
