Apple and Microsoft are working together to make the new Xbox Series X and Series S controllers work on iPhones and iPads. The new controllers are currently not officially supported on either iOS or iPadOS but Apple has said that they are working together with Microsoft to bring “compatibility for the Xbox Series X controller to customers in a future update”.
This is not the first time Apple and Microsoft have worked together to improve Xbox controller support. Apple has worked with Microsoft in the past to add support for the Xbox Elite 2 controller and the Xbox Adaptive Controller support to iOS 14 earlier this year.

The support for Xbox Elite 2 came in nearly a year after Elite 2 was released though, however, this time with the Xbox Series S and Series X, things should be faster.
It is not clear how long it will actually take Apple to certify the new Series X controllers but there are hints that DualSense support might come soon. Apple Insider recently reported that iOs 14.3, which is currently in beta, “appears to include behind-the-scenes support” for the PS5’s DualSense controller.
While Apple has not mentioned the DualSense in its support note, hopefully it should not take the company a year this time to include the support for the DualSense and new Xbox controllers.
