Mobile gaming on Apple’s iPhones and iPads is currently one of the best in terms of performance and graphics, thanks to Apple’s more than capable hardware. However, certain games simply work better with wireless controllers, such as PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds (PUBG), Call of Duty Mobile, Asphalt, and several other titles. In fact, controllers for games like PUBG were so common that e-commerce websites were flooded with affordable controllers to connect to Android devices, before the game was banned in the country.

Apple has, thankfully, allowed developers to configure how the controller works in each game, so you aren’t stuck learning which button to press in different games - you can basically set customisation on a per-game basis and configure each button action, haptic feedback, screenshot and video capturing in-game. You can make these changes in the Game Controller menu under the ‘General’ section of your device’s system settings app.

Pairing your PlayStation DualSense controller or your Xbox Series X controller to your iPhone, iPad will require you to have the iOS 14.5 update installed on those devices. Similarly, the controllers will also work with or Apple TV, but only once you have installed the tvOS 14.5 update. Unfortunately, it’s only available to developers and those registered to receive the public beta releases of iOS. Nevertheless, the update should roll out to everyone in a few weeks, so keep your controllers charged and ready when the update does arrive.
