Punjab teen reportedly spends 16 lakhs on PUBG Mobile

PUBG Mobile is a fairly popular mobile game. The game doubled its lifetime revenue to more than $3 billion globally in just over seven months, which is a testament of the fact its popularity is on a rise. Now, word is that a teenager from Punjab has spent over ₹10 lakhs while playing PUBG Mobile.

A 17-year-old teenager from Kharar, Punjab spent ₹16 lakh from his parents’ three banking accounts for making in-app purchases in PUBG Mobile. The teenager’s father told Tribune India, that he is a government employee with a long medical history. He had saved money for his medical expenses and his son’s future. However, the teenager used the money from his father’s savings account for making purchases within the game. He also used money from his father’s PF account and his mother’s account for the same.

As per the report, the teenager made all the purchases via his mother’s phone and that he would regularly delete the messages from the bank informing them of the debited money. And when his parents questioned his excessive use of the smartphone, he told them that he was using the device to study online. He also shuffled money from one account to another to avoid raising doubts about the bank account’s nil balance. The incident came to light only when they got a statement from the bank.

After the incident, the teenager’s father is making him work at a scooter repair shop. “He is working at a scooter repair shop so that he realises how it is to earn money,” the father told the publication.
