Most of our daily meetings now happen on Zoom. And these are often not just meetings with colleagues, many Zoom users also use the platform to keep in touch with friends and family. Now, to make some of those meetings more fun, there’s a new filter on the Snap Camera you can use. Snap Inc’s desktop app, the Snap Camera, has new filters incoming that are going to transform you into a generic Pixar or DreamWorks character. This filter already exists on Snapchat and you might have seen many Snaps with it. There is also a new update coming in on the Snap Camera that will allow users to apply Pixar, Disney, and DreamWorks-like cartoon filters on Zoom calls.
Now, you need to pick and choose what meetings you want to apply these filters to. You do not need us to tell you how this is not appropriate for most official use cases. However, if you have cool colleagues, be our guest. To be able to use these new filters, you need to ensure you are using Snap Camera v1.14.0. The desktop app is available on the official Snap Inc website and it works on PCs with minimum Windows 10 or macOS 10.13 OS, Intel Core i3 2.5Ghz or AMD FX 4300 2.6Ghz, and Intel HD Graphics 4000 or Nvidia GeForce 710 or AMD Radeon HD 6450.
You need to download Snap Camera from the official website and give the desktop app access to your PC’s microphone and camera. Next, you need to keep the app on and open Zoom.
- Once Zoom is open, click on the ‘gear’ icon on the upper right corner of the Zoom app and select ‘Video’.
- From the drop-down menu under ‘Video’, click on ‘Camera’.
- From here you have to select ‘Snap Camera’ instead of whatever your current input is.
- If you are using a Mac, click on ‘Preferences’ on the Zoom app and then click on ‘Video’.
You will then need to go back to the Snap Camera app and select the filter you want to use. However, you may not find all the effects/filters available as you see on the Snapchat app. Some users may also see an error message that reads - “No available camera input” while trying to use these Snap Camera filters. For them, you can apply the filter of your choice on the Snap Camera app and then move to use Zoom while the Snap Camera is running in the background. If you are seeing the error message you will have to make sure the Snap Camera is open in the background for you to be able to use it on Zoom.
