Paytm starts charging extra for mobile recharges! Know how much you need to pay now

If you do mobile recharges via Paytm, you may have to pay extra fee for the same.

How do you recharge your mobile? Do you use Paytm for the same? If yes, have you noticed that the app is charging fees when you make mobile recharges? As per the reports, Paytm has started levying platform fee for recharges done via the app. What needs to be noted is that the charge is not fixed. That is you can be charged anywhere between Re. 1 and Rs. 6 depending on the recharge amount. Also, the Paytm mobile recharge fee is applicable on all recharges, irrespective of the payment mode.

Whether you recharge your phone through Unified Payments Interface (UPI), Paytm Wallet, bank credit or debit card, you will have to pay the charge or extra fee. According to a report by gadgets360.com, the update is not applicable to all the users as of now. "...the additional charge is applicable on transactions above Rs. 100," the report said. Paytm had in the year 2019 tweeted that it would not charge any convenience or transaction fee from customers on using any payment method which included cards, UPI, and wallet. "Important: Paytm neither charges nor will charge any convenience or transaction fee from customers on using any payment method which includes Cards, UPI and Wallet," the tweet read.

Earlier, in the month of October 2021, PhonePe started charging processing fee for doing mobile recharges above Rs. 50. PhonePe called it a “small-scale experience.” While other UPI apps like Amazon Pay and Google Pay are not yet charging any additional charges for mobile recharges.

Here is how you can do mobile recharge via Paytm app

Step 1:

Open the Paytm mobile application.

Step 2:

Select ‘Recharge & Bill Payments’ from the drop-down menu.

Step 3:

Select ‘Mobile Recharge’ and then ‘Prepaid’.

Step 4:

Enter a mobile number or select a number from your contacts.

Step 5:

Next, select the operator’s plan or enter the amount to recharge the mobile phone.

Step 6:

To complete the mobile recharge, click ‘Fast forward’ or ‘Pay.’ When you select the fast forward option, the amount will be deducted from your Paytm wallet, whereas the proceed to pay bill option gives you several options for paying the bill.
