Apple Mac Pro with M2 Extreme not happening

One of the main reasons behind ditching the M2 Extreme chip was the complexities of making the chip and its production. On top of that, Apple has been wondering whether consumers would be ready to shell that amount of money for its Mac Pro model. In today’s world, the Mac Pro would cost somewhere around $10000, which is a lot of money for a computer.

Nonetheless, Apple is now expected to announce new variants of the MacBook Pro models based on the M2 chip. In early 2023, Apple could announce the new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models with the M2 Pro and M2 Max chips. A new Mac Mini is also expected to break cover, and could rely on the M2 chip.

At the moment, the M2 chip is powering the 13.6-inch MacBook Air 2022 and the 13-inch MacBook Pro. From the iPad side, the M2 chip is powering the 11-inch iPad Pro and the 12.9-inch iPad Pro. Apple also continues to sell the M1 powered MacBook Air as the entry level model for its Mac lineup.
