Apple macOS Monterey saves you from having to go through this painful exercise

The latest iteration of an operating system is generally welcome as it provides extra benefits that were not available in older versions. It is generally a win-win situation for both the companies concerned and the users of their products. That is what has happened when Apple unveiled the macOS Monterey at the keynote address of its annual developers’ conference, WWDC 2021, earlier this week. With macOS Monterey, Apple is looking to bring a host of new features to its desktop-based operating system (OS). The list includes Highlights and Mentions in Notes, Universal Control and AirPlay among others.

In addition to all these features, Apple has also introduced a new feature on its desktop-based operating system that enables users to erase their mac laptops and desktops without needing to reinstall the OS. Simply said, users can restore the Apple laptops or desktops to factory settings without having the need to reinstall the OS.

The interesting revelation comes as a courtesy of Apple’s support page wherein the company has listed details of this feature.

“System Preferences now offers an option to erase all user data and user-installed apps from the system, while maintaining the operating system currently installed. Because storage is always encrypted on Mac systems with Apple silicon or the T2 chip, the system is instantly and securely “erased” by destroying the encryption keys,” Apple wrote in its support page.

In addition to this, macOS Monterey brings a system-wide translation feature that enables users to translate any typed or dictated text. Apple has also brought a Live Text feature to macOS Monterey, that can be used to translate selected text in photos. Apple has also brought a new feature to its desktop-based operating system that optimises the battery of the device. The company has brought a Low-Power Mode to macOS Monterey that reduces system clock speed and display brightness to extended the battery life of Macs and MacBook laptop.

For privacy, Apple has introduced a Recording indicator feature in macOS Monterey. As Apple explains, this feature lets users see which apps have access to the mic on their Mac in Control Center. “A new software indicator augments the camera indicator light by showing you whenever an app has access to your mic,” Apple explained in a support page.

However, if you are looking to buy now, then know that macOS Monterey is available in beta for developers. It will be available in public beta mode next month and to all users in the fall this year.
