Aarogya Setu to display ‘blue ticks’ after you take both vaccination shots

Aarogya Setu, the Indian government’s official contact tracing app on Tuesday announced the arrival of a new feature to help identify users that have taken their vaccine doses in a familiar format -- two blue ticks marks that will be displayed in the app.

The new method of identifying users who have taken the vaccine is displayed on the main screen of the Aarogya Setu app, on the ‘Your Status’ tab. Users who are vaccinated and have their status updated via CoWIN will see a blue banner that says ‘You are Vaccinated’ and two blue ticks that show over the orange Aarogya Setu heart icon.

“Now your Vaccination Status can be updated on Aarogya Setu. Get your self vaccinated - Get the Double Blue Ticks and Get the Blue Shield,” the contact tracing service tweeted on Tuesday. The two blue tick marks will sound familiar to Indian users as it is a feature found on WhatsApp, that allows users to see when someone has seen their message.

However, it is important to keep in mind that this vaccination indicator will only work if the number you have signed up for Aarogya Setu using the same number that you used to register on CoWIN. If you have signed up for both these services using different numbers, it will not show up on your Aarogya Setu app.

According to the screenshot shared on Aarogya Setu’s Twitter account, the app currently has around 19.92 crore Indian users. While some have questioned the efficacy of the contact tracing app after it was released last year, it has since grown beyond its original purpose of identifying infected people who a user might have come into contact with, adding features such as displaying COVID updates and booking vaccines on the app.
