iOS 13 (Apple)

Apple is known to keep things hidden until the last moment before they actually reveal the product. But like it or not, tipsters and analysts are often able to reveal some of them before. However, at times it also happens that we get hints and clues about the upcoming product inside the developer beta version of the software. Something similar has happened with iOS 14. In the new OS version that has just been released as a developer beta version, Apple has dropped a major feature that reveals iPhone 12’s key display feature.

As found by a Twitter user @BenGeskin, the feature is called ‘Limit Frame Rate’ and is essentially a toggle that ‘Sets the maximum frame rate of the display to 60 frames per second’. This feature is found in the Settings app, under the Accessibility and Motion options.

So how does it reveal anything about iPhone 12? None of the iPhones launched till date has more than 60fps. That’s the maximum frame rate you get in iPhones. So, adding the option to limit the frame rate to 60fps in iOS 14 despite all iPhones having 60fps as the only option strongly suggests that future iPhones will have more than 60fps support with an option to limit it to 60fps.

This adds to the claims that iPhone 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max will come with 120Hz Pro Motion support. iPhone 12 series will also be the first to come with the final version of iOS 14. Apple always rolls out the final version of the OS days after they are out along with the new iPhone models.

That said, it won’t be surprising to see Apple removing this frame rate limiting option from the future iOS 14 developer beta versions.
