Apple iOS 15 to bring new iMessage features, iPad home screen widgets and more: Report

Apple is all set to introduce a new operating system for the iPhones at its upcoming WWDC 2021 conference. The new version is tipped as iOS 15. Although nothing is concrete about the OS features yet, a new report from Bloomberg sheds light on what is expected, citing sources close to the matter.

The report adds that iOS 15 and iPadOS 15, which will be unveiled at WWDC 2021 on June 7, will have a new menu that will be accessible right from the Lock Screen and Control Center. Using that option, people will get a more granular control over how notifications pop-up based on different tasks they are doing like driving, at work or during Do Not Disturb (DND) mode.

In addition, the report talks about the iPad home screen, on which you will be able to add widgets. It is said to be one of the biggest changes coming to iPads in iPadOS 15. Apple introduced ‘Widgets’ that can be added on to the homescreen, last year, but until now it is only limited to iPhones.

There will also be a new menu to let users see what all information the apps are collecting. It is being said that this will show the same data that is mentioned in the app's new ‘privacy labels’ section introduced by Apple in the App Store last year.

On iOS, there might be a minor change in the lock screen, from where you can access the privacy menu we mentioned above.

What’s more is that iMessage will get some new features that are likely to bring it closer to WhatsApp. However, the report has not gone into details on what is to be expected.

As for other OSes, there might be minor changes, specially in macOS since the company brought a major redesign last year itself.
