Apple launched its second-generation tablet -- iPad 2 -- back in March 2011 less than a year after introducing the original iPad model. Now, after a decade of service, Apple has officially declared the device obsolete.
The company has added the iPad 2 to its list of vintage and obsolete devices globally. The list includes both, the device’s Wi-Fi only variant and the WiFi+3G variant.
MacRumors reports that Apple had added the iPad 2 to the list back in 2019, which marked the device obsolete in all countries except the US and Turkey where the law required the company to declare it a vintage product. But now, Apple has updated its list adding the iPad 2 to the list of obsolete devices globally.
Apple classifies products that have been discontinued for at least seven years as ‘obsolete. Now with this development, iPad 2 users will no longer be able to get any hardware service from the company or its authorised service providers. They can get it repaired by third-party service providers but it will no longer be backed by Apple.
Other iPad models that the company has declared obsolete over the years include the original iPad, iPad 3G, third-generation iPad (WiFi and WiFi + Cellular variants), iPad (WiFi + 3G) and iPad (WiFi + 4G) among others.
