Apple iPhone 12 models may feature in-display fingerprint sensor, more than a year after Android phones

We’ve known almost everything about the upcoming iPhone 12 series, thanks to loads of leaks and rumours by analysts and tipsters. It has been mentioned multiple times that iPhone 12, 12 Max, 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max will feature three cameras with LiDAR, flat bezels and a smaller notch. A lot has been said about the screens as well including their type, resolution, refresh rate and even the exact sizes. However, a new report now claims that there will be another major display tech coming to iPhone 12 models - on-screen fingerprint sensor.

These are not new of course as we have already seen many Android phones sporting this these days, including the mid-range ones. However, this will be the first time for Apple iPhones. Now, this can have two plus points. The first is that an on-screen fingerprint sensor will be an added layer of security for iPhones and second is that those missing the traditional fingerprint sensor in older iPhones will have something to look forward to. However, a downside of adding this tech could be slightly more weight, increase in the price and thicker body than before.

The report from Mydriver adds that Apple won’t be copying the tech that is used in Android and will have a twist of its own in it. The move is also said to make the experience more uniform with Apple Card as well that is rumoured to feature a fingerprint scanner too.

A recent report has stated that the two 6.1-inch iPhone 12 models will be going in production from next month. These are said to enter production before the other two because their touch controllers will be coming from third-party manufacturers and will take time to be implemented.
