Apple will allow users to set a default music player in iOS 14.5

While Apple rolled out a beta release of version 14.5 of its iOS operating system last week, users are still finding useful new changes and additions made to the software days after receiving the update. The latest feature to have cropped up is the ability to set a default music app in place of Apple Music.

According to a report by MacRumours, the feature allows users to choose from all of the music players that are currently installed on an iPhone running iOS 14.5 beta when a user asks Siri to play a particular song. The selection of music app then remains as the default music streaming service.

Prior to the release of iOS 14.5 beta, users had to specify what music player they wanted to use (Play Watermelon Sugar by Harry Styles - on YouTube Music) every single time they wanted to play a track. The new feature seems to be in line with Apple’s decision to allow users to select a default browser and email app.

However, this new feature does not seem to be complete, the report states. Some users have reported that the feature only works with certain phrases - occasionally, the default will revert back to Apple Music. The feature will probably receive other improvements before it is released to the public in the coming weeks.

Other features coming to the latest version of Apple’s mobile operating system, include support for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X controllers, plus ability to unlock your iPhone while your face is covered, with the help of your Apple Watch. Another vital feature that is coming to the app is Apple’s App Tracking controls. The release of the stable version of iOS 14.5 has not yet been announced by Apple but should take place in the coming weeks.
