Apple’s foldable iPhone prototypes have passed internal durability tests: Details

It looks like things are moving forward with Apple’s plan for foldable iPhone. According to a report by a Taiwanese publication Money, the foldable iPhone prototypes have passed internal tests for durability. These two prototypes were being tested in Foxconn’s factory in Shenzhen, China. While one of them reportedly has a dual screen, the other one has a clamshell design just like Samsung's Galaxy Z Flip or Moto Razr.

It has also been mentioned that the second prototype with clamshell design could be using Samsung's flexible OLED display.

The report adds that although both the models have been passed for durability, Apple might not be launching both. Instead, it may just launch one or the other.

This piece of information also resonates with what tipster John Prosser said recently. Citing his sources, Prosser said that Apple is working on two prototype iPhones and one of them has a clamshell design. He added that the foldable screen could be supplied by Samsung. It's worth mentioning that Apple has been long rumoured to be working on a foldable iPhone.

According to a report from September last year, Apple may launch its foldable iPhone later in 2021 or most probably in 2022.

Foldable phones are still at their nascent stages with the only handful of companies offering devices. So far, the likes of Samsung (Galaxy Z Flip and Galaxy Z Fold), Huawei (Mate X) and Motorola (Moto Razr) have commercially launched foldable phones. These companies are also trying to improve the design as well as specifications on what is widely considered as luxury device. Apple’s entry, however, could make the space more competitive.
