Good news for iPhone 14 buyers, not so good for iPhone 14 Pro! Prices will rise

With September on the horizon, there remains the biggest concern for Apple fans – what will this year’s iPhone 14 cost? For the last few years, Apple has kept the prices of the flagship iPhone series largely unchanged. The vanilla iPhone starts at the usual $699 mark whereas the Pro variant starts at $999. This year though, the iPhone is changing massively and all of the new upgrades are going to the Pro models. And thanks to these upgrades, the iPhone 14 Pro variants are expected to cost almost $100 more than the outgoing iPhone 13 Pro this year.

Wedbush Securities analyst Dan Ives says in a statement to Macrumors that the iPhone 14 Pro could see a price hike of almost $100 this year. This coincides with the previous rumours suggesting that the iPhone 14 Pro could start at $1,099 while the iPhone 14 Pro Max could climb up the price ladder and start at $1,199. Ives doesn’t suggest any change in the price of the standard iPhone 14, which is likely to be the entry-level model this year.

iPhone 14 prices tipped again

"While the base iPhone will stay at the same price we believe a $100 price increase on the iPhone 14 Pro/Pro Max is likely in store given component price increases as well as added functionality on this new release," said Ives in a research note.

This indicates that the iPhone 14 itself could have the same starting price of $799 for the base 128GB variant, which was the case with the iPhone 13 last year. There would be no iPhone 14 at the $699 mark though, given that Apple is rumoured to discontinue the iPhone Mini this year.

The iPhone 14 Max, which is the bigger version of the standard model, will offer a 6.7-inch display and a bigger capacity battery, but will keep all the rest of the features similar. This iPhone 14 Max is expected to have a starting price of around $899, thereby filling the gap between the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro.

The iPhone 14 Pro is where all the upgrades are going this year. A new A16 Bionic chip, a new 48MP main camera sensor, a new display design with a pill-shaped camera cutout and support for Always On Display, and then some more. The iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max variants will be the new models in true sense this year.
