Vivo is going to launch an S9 smartphone series next month. It is also said to be one of the first smartphones to come with MediaTek’s Dimensity 1100 processor. As of now, Vivo has not officially announced the launch date for the phone. A new leak, however, gives a closer look at the design of the phone. The leak also confirms a 44-megapixel front-facing camera.
The leak, which shows the rear panel, reveals the phone has a slim profile with a rectangular camera module with at least three sensors. The panel looks identical to the popular S7 smartphone series. As far as the camera configuration goes, the phone is rumoured to come with a 64-megapixel primary sensor on the back. The selfie camera module will house two sensors -- 44-megapixel and 8-megapixel. The two sensors will be housed in a notch cut out just like the S7.
That said, it is not the first time when Vivo S9 has made an early appearance. Recently, the smartphone was spotted on Google Play Console and China’s 3C certification. The listings revealed the smartphone would come with a 90Hz display with full HD+ resolution. It will have 12GB of RAM. Other leaked features of the S9 are a 4,000mAh battery, Android 11, and 33W fast charging.
The biggest draw, however, is going to be MediaTek’s Dimensity 1100 SoC. The 5G chip was launched last month alongside Dimensity 1200. Both the chips are based on the 6nm process. The two processors also come with 5G carrier aggregation (2CC) across frequency division duplex (FDD) and time division duplex (TDD), dynamic spectrum sharing (DSS), True Dual SIM 5G (5G SA + 5G SA) and Voice over New Radio (VoNR).
Dimensity 1100 SoC comes with an octa-core CPU with four Arm Cortex-A78 cores operating at up to 2.6GHz and four Arm Cortex-A55 efficiency cores. It also has a nine-core Arm Mali-G77 GPU. Interestingly, it also supports a 108-megapixel camera. MediaTek had said that devices with Dimensity 1100 would be available in the second quarter of the year.
