Almost all of us have heard about ‘phone lock’ and even ‘app lock’. These are nothing but a layer of security with an aim to protect sensitive data from someone who tries to get access without consent. But many might not have heard about ‘SIM lock’. To clear it out, this is not a new tech and no, it doesn’t alarm the handset owner or authorities if you try to remove it. It's dug inside your handset's Settings app and is in fact a really useful feature.

What it does? SIM Lock essentially locks the SIM to the handset it is placed in. This means that when you remove the SIM card and place it in a different handset, it will ask for the PIN code that was set for the SIM. Similarly, when you insert a new SIM card in the handset that was already set with a SIM lock, it will again ask for the PIN code to operate.
