iPhone 13, iPhone 14 ultra-wide and telephoto camera improvements tipped

Apple analyst Ming Chi Kuo has once again released a new note, talking about the upcoming iPhone models. As per the analyst, there might not be a lot of improvements to look forward to in the main camera of the 2021 and 2022 iPhones (tipped as iPhone 13 and iPhone 14 series).

Although his latest report focuses on the battle between Apple's camera suppliers, it also includes some product references, reported by 9to5Mac. According to Kuo, the 2021 iPhone’s main camera will have 7P lens, which means seven plastic elements for a clearer image. However, this is not new considering that the iPhone 12 series has the same setup.

But that’s just for the primary lens. In previous reports, he has claimed that there might be some noticeable changes in the ultra-wide and telephoto lenses in the next couple of years. 

According to his earlier posts, one can expect a major improvement in the ultra-wide lens in iPhone 13 series. He says that the aperture might be widened from f/2.4 to f/1.8. This will let the sensor capture twice the light and will indeed improve the low light performance. The number of elements in the ultra-wide lens can also go from five to six. So, there might be less distortion while clicking wide-angle shots. Furthermore, the wide-angle lens is said to come with autofocus for the first time. Right now, the ultra-wide lens in iPhone 12 series has a fixed focus tech. 

In a separate report, Kuo has talked about the telephoto lens that will see a dramatic improvement in 2022 iPhones. It has been said that those iPhones might have 10x optical zoom. This means the company might be using periscope lens design to get this feature.
