iPhone 13 price tempting? DON'T buy it in 2022, avoid this upgrade! We tell why

iPhone 13 price cuts have been happening too often lately, with several bank offers and direct slashes across various online marketplaces. Both the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Mini are enjoying some vast price cuts across Amazon, Flipkart, and various other retailers. On paper, these seem like a good deal, given that it is the much-hyped iPhone 13 after all – it has got one of the fastest chips, great cameras, long battery life, and the iconic iPhone design. But, we suggest AVOID buying it now.

Are you surprised? Make no mistake, the iPhone 13 is a very good smartphone to live with but considering what the rest of the market has to offer in 2022 in the same price segment, it pales out largely in comparison. When you pitch it against some similarly prices high-end Android smartphones, it seems as if the iPhone 13 comes from a bygone era where technology has barely moved ahead.

Obviously, none of the following pointers will make sense if you have been a long-time iPhone user/fan. This is for those who are willing to choose a phone that delivers the most bang for buck , especially when spending ₹80,000 on a new smartphone in 2022.

iPhone 13: Why it isn’t as good as it seems?

Turns out there are multiple reasons the iPhone 13 isn’t as good as it competition.

Slow refresh rate display

The iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Mini are still the only high-end smartphones in India come with 60Hz refresh rate displays. Compared to the 120Hz variable refresh rate panel on similarly priced Samsung, Oppo, and Xiaomi phones, the iPhone 13’s 60Hz display seems to lag in comparison. Even the touch response rate feels slow.

Slow battery charging

The iPhone 13 is also among the slowest charging phones in the market right now. With Xiaomi and other brands now moving to 120W charging systems that promise a full charge in 20 minutes, the iPhone 13’s 20W charging system takes hours to fill up the battery.

Limited camera versatility

The iPhone 13 still limits itself to a main and an ultra-wide camera configuration. A similarly priced Galaxy S21, Vivo X70 Pro+ and OnePlus 9 Pro offer an extra telephoto camera for the same price, thereby offering much better magnification while zooming in.

No fingerprint scanner

Even though Apple claims its Face ID system is more secure, it is slower in comparison to an in-display fingerprint scanner that most Android phones have to offer. The Face ID system adds an extra step of looking at the phone directly, or lifting it up – not an issue with a fingerprint scanner. And Apple is in no mood add its reliable Touch ID system back on the iPhone.

No USB-C port

This is also a concern for a minor group of people who have multiple devices to carry. You have to carry a separate Lightning cable to charge your iPhone. Moreover, it still is limited to slow USB 2.0 speeds, while similar Android phones with USB-C ports offer faster data transfer speeds.

iOS lacks customisation

Even in its latest avatar, iOS lacks the intricate levels of customisation that is present on Samsung, Oppo, Google, Vivo, and OnePlus phones. You still can’t have a clean homescreen and there’s no easy way to change the app icons. On a similarly priced Samsung phone, you can choose what shade of colours would you like on your app icons. 

iPhone 13 has other advantages though

-You cannot find faults with the iPhone 13’s battery life. It is still one of the few phones that can last up to two days with cautious usage.

-The iPhone 13 has a very reliable video camera, and it does a good job with still photos too.

-With 5G coming in, the iPhone 13 is future proof. It supports almost all 5G bands that can make it work easily with 5G networks across the globe.

-Lastly, the iPhone 13 is likely to have the longest software support cycle. 2015’s iPhone 6s got the new iOS 15 update last year, and we expect Apple to deliver the same 6 years of OS updates with the iPhone 13.
