iPhones will be the first to get gender consistent ‘woman with a beard’ emoji

Apple iPhone users will be getting some new emojis to play with, when they will get iOS 14.5 update. As mentioned by Emojipedia blog, these new emojis are visible in the iOS 14.5 beta. Some of them are “heart on fire, exhaling face, and gender options for the people with beards.” Users will also get vaccine-friendly syringe emoji, and support for couples with a mix of skin tones.

As for couples, Apple’s iOS 14.5 will bring emojis for couples with mixed skin tones. Also mentioned is that 200 of the 217 new emojis are “there to permit this more inclusive set of couples to be chosen from the emoji keyboard.” Coming to smileys, iOS 14.5 beta brings three new emojis showing exhaling face, face with spiral eyes and face in clouds. Besides this, you get others like heart on fire and mending heart.

For gender consistency, for the first time you get a woman with a beard in different skin tones and same for male faces as well. “In practice with Apple's design style, women in this scenario tend to be displayed with longer hair, and thinner eyebrows. Most other features remain quite similar to Apple's emoji man,” adds emojipedia.

The Syringe emoji has changed this time as the blood from it has been removed. This is said to be done so the emoji looks more versatile and can be used to describe Covid-19 vaccination.

But that’s not all, Apple seems to be doing some self promotion as well. In iOS 14.5, the headphone emoji has now been changed to look like Apple’s AirPods Max. Apple has done with other generic emojis as well including desktop computer (Mac), laptop (Macbook), mobile phone (iPhone) and watch (Apple Watch).

It is not for sure when exactly Apple plans to release iOS 14.5. However, considering it is already in Beta 2, it may take a month's time or less.
