Is Samsung working on a phone with pop-out flexible display? Patent says so

Last year we saw smartphones with new form factors hitting the market. Samsung Galaxy Fold, Moto Razr and LG Wing, all gave us a new design and usage ideas. However, Samsung is not done with Z Flip and Galaxy Fold-style form factors. It is also working on a display that pops up when required. This was revealed in a recently filed patent that illustrates how a flexible display can pops out of the smartphone’s chassis. Unearthed by Lets Go Digital website, the patent also gives details on how Samsung plans to create a speaker resonance chamber inside a phone.

As per the patent, the Samsung handset could have a separate front and back panels. Components like the speakers, microphones, selfie camera and other sensors will be sandwiched between the panels. They will be on the front panel but will pop out with the flexible screen.

The design, besides introducing a new form factor, will also amplify the sound and make it louder. For display, Samsung plans to use a plastic polymer panel, which is same as the one you find in the original Galaxy Fold.

One of the interesting part in the patent was the rectangular frame, similar to what the iPhone 12 models have. This also means Samsung may adopt a flatter screen design if it ever comes up with such kind of a device.

Unfortunately, Samsung fans might not have a whole lot to get excited about since this is a mere patent and might not even see the light of the day as a complete device.
