While we have started seeing several major brands like Qualcomm, Apple and Huawei coming up with their 5nm chipsets for devices, MediaTek is also trying its best to catch-up. Although it has not launched a 5nm processor yet, it plans to introduce a 6nm processor on 20th January in China. The company has revealed a poster that states the day of the event, and almost confirms the previous claims that there will be a new chipset coming under its ‘Dimensity’ lineup.

The former has also set the theme of ‘sensation’ for the event, as mentioned by Gizmochina. Although the details have not been revealed yet, some previous leaks seem to have given us a fair idea of what is to come.

The processor, back in November last year, showed up in GeekBench 5 results with the name MT6893. In the test, the chipset proved to be more powerful than company’s own Dimensity 1000+ processor and is actually at par with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 865.

Not sure which
mobile to buy?

The chipset is said to feature one primary Cortex-A78 core at 3Ghz, in addition to three Cortex-A78 cores at 2.6GHz and four other energy-efficient Cortex-A55 cores at 2Ghz. It also has Mali-G77 MC9 GPU.

Some leaks also point out that it may improve upon LPDDR4X RAM and UFS 2.0 storage and will offer LPDDR5 and UFS 3.0 storage support. But nothing can be said for sure.

That said, according to a recent report, Apple will probably move to 4nm process-based chipset for iPhones in 2022. Going by the naming scheme, it might be called as A16 Bionic.
