Nokia phones aren’t the only affordable ones with Zeiss cameras anymore

Until now we have all have been associating Zeiss lenses with Nokia-branded smartphone cameras. But that exclusivity was long gone when the optics firm joined hands with Sony earlier this year. The smartphone maker even showcased its Xperia 1 II with optics calibrated by Zeiss. However, HMD did confirm that it will keep making Nokia smartphones with Zeiss lenses. And since Sony Xperia phones come at a premium, it only left Nokia phones as the ‘affordable’ ones with Zeiss cameras. But now, Vivo has joined the bandwagon by partnering with the optics firm and seems ready to compete with Nokia.

The firm, which came in the headlines for the ‘Gimbal cameras’ in its X50 smartphone series this year, will now be using Zeiss Vario-Tessar lenses featuring the T* anti-reflective coating in its X60 range of camera-centric smartphones.

The handset will also use Zeiss’ 3D PoP algorithms for bokeh renders. And this doesn’t look like a partnership for a single handset. The tech might be used for other high-end phones too.

As a part of the deal, the two companies will also set up the Vivo Zeiss Imaging Lab. The joint R&D program on developing mobile imaging technology might just make Vivo phones one of the best camera handsets in the coming years. In addition, the firms will begin Vivo Zeiss Master Photography campaign for promoting developed imaging systems.
