Samsung Exynos 981 chip in the works, could power mid-range Galaxy A phones

Samsung is also working on a premium chipset that will power its flagship phones such as Galaxy S21. Here is what we know so far.

Samsung is working on a new chipset that will power its next range of mid-range and budget smartphones. Dubbed as Exynos 981, the unreleased processor has been spotted Bluetooth SIG.

So far, very little is known about the chipset. According to Sammobile, Exynos 981 will succeed the 980 processor. It could also power 5G versions of Galaxy A52 and Galaxy A72. Samsung is also working on another Exynos 1080 processor for upcoming mid-range phones.

Even as mid-range chips are significant, there is a lot of buzz around the upcoming Exynos chipset that is said to run on the Galaxy S21 flagship smartphones. Dubbed as Exynos 1000, the chipset will reportedly have 1 + 3 + 4 core configuration. Rumours suggest Exynos 1000 could launch as Exynos 2100.

Leaked Geekbench scores had put the chip ahead of the upcoming Qualcomm Snapdragon 875 SoC. The chipset is also going to be a 5nm process-based. On single-core test, Exynos 2100 scored 1,323 points whereas Snapdragon 875 bagged 1,204. On multi-core test, the Exynos chip had 4,215 points while the Snapdragon chip followed with 4,121 points.

Separately, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 875 details have appeared in the form of leaked AnTuTu scores. The chipset scored 8,47,868 points on AnTuTu. Yadav pointed 875 beat Snapdragon 865 Plus’ 6,29,245 points. If the scores are believed, Snapdragon 875 could be the most powerful Qualcomm processor to date.
