Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra vs Galaxy S20 Ultra: Here’s what’s new

Samsung’s new flagship smartphones are here. The new lineup features Galaxy S21, Galaxy S21 Plus, and Galaxy S21 Ultra. As the names imply, the S21 Ultra is the top-end model in the new smartphone series. Let’s compare the latest handset with its predecessor, check what is new.

Design and display

Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra measures 75.6×165.1×8.9mm. It comes with a 6.8-inch Edge QHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2x Infinity-O display. The screen offers 515ppi, HDR 10+ certification, and adaptive 120Hz refresh rate. It is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus.

Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra measured 166.9 x 76.0 x 8.8mm. It offered a slightly a larger 6.9-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2x Infinity-O display. It also offered up to 120Hz refresh rate and HDR 10+ certification. The display was protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 6.

Camera

Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra comes with a quad-camera setup. The configuration features a 108-megapixel sensor coupled with 12-megapixel and dual 10-megapixel sensors. On the front, it has a 40-megapixel selfie camera.

Beyond specs, Samsung’s new phone offers the ability to shoot 4K videos at 60fps across all lenses including front and rear camera sensors. It also has a 12-bit RAW file option. The smartphone also offers 100X Super Zoom, which runs on the company’s “first-ever Dual-tele lens system – one optical 3x and one optical 10x both equipped Dual Pixel(2PD) AF.”

The Galaxy S20 Ultra was the first time Samsung introduced a 108-megapixel camera on its phones. The smartphone offered 108-megapixel camera sensor with an f/1.8 aperture alongside a 48-megapixel telephoto sensor with f/3.5 aperture, 12-megapixel ultra-wide sensor with f/2.2 aperture and a ToF VGA camera. On the front, it also had a 40-megapixel selfie camera.

Performance

Samsung’s new phone comes with a 5nm 64-bit octa-core processor (Exynos 2100). The phone comes in 12GB RAM (LPDDR5) with 128GB / 256GB internal storage and 16GB RAM (LPDDR5) with 512GB internal storage options. A 5,000mAh battery powers the phone.

Samsung’s Galaxy S20 Ultra ran a 7nm octa-core Exynos 990 processor (Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 in select markets) with up to 16GB RAM and up to 512GB built-in storage. It also came with a microSD card slot to support expandable storage up to 1TB. A 5,000mAh battery powered the phone.

S Pen and other new features

As rumoured earlier, Samsung’s new top-end model Galaxy S21 Ultra comes with support for S Pen.

“From drawing to note-taking to editing photos and signing documents, now you can unlock the power of the S Pen on the Galaxy S21 Ultra. Use an existing S Pen from a Galaxy Note or Galaxy Tab or purchase an S Pen separately on its own or with a compatible case,” said Samsung on its website.

Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra is also the company’s one of the first phones to offer Wi-Fi 6E technology.
