There’s no doubt why Apple has been ruling the smartphone market for years. The tech giant keeps surprising its fans with new developments and technologies, be it iPhone’s security or software update or its legacy features. And now the tech giant is developing a revolutionary technology for iPhones that could allow users to type or text even in rain or underwater. Exciting! Apple has recently secured a patent that suggests it will soon introduce new features i.e, wet mode that will allow users to type even when there are water droplets on the display.

As per the patent filed by Apple, with this feature, the iPhone will be able to detect changes in the environment and adjust the touch sensitivity of the display.

According to the patent filed by Apple in the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, this ability will let the iPhone work during "a moisture exposure event", such as rain. It would use the inbuilt pressure and moisture sensors to detect water droplets on the display and adjust itself accordingly.

The software could change the layouts of the on-screen buttons in case of a little rain so that chances of getting accidental touch inputs get reduced. It would also enable the handset to adjust pressure sensitivity of its display and accept commands to the touch inputs where a certain amount of force is applied. This will protect it from accidental touch inputs like by raindrops. Apple calls it “False taps”.

The patent filed by Apple reads, “The electronic device can include a moisture detector capable of detecting an amount of moisture present at the protective cover, where when the amount of moisture is greater than a threshold amount, the processor determines a position of the touch event based on detection signals provided by the capacitance detector and the applied force detector.”

The patent further mentions that the touch responses will have three modes: wet, dry and underwater so that the iPhone can change the UI accordingly and can be used even underwater. This will help iPhone users during shooting videos or clicking pictures underwater.
