Vivo could replace Funtouch OS with Origin OS

Vivo is reportedly planning to replace its custom Funtouch OS with a brand-new Origin OS. Not much is known about the new custom OS yet but leakster Digital Chat Station claims it is going to be a big improvement over Funtouch OS.

According to the leakster, Origin OS has “improved a lot, and has everything that should be available, and it is expected to be among the first echelon of Android customized UI.” The OS could be officially unveiled later this month or in December. The launch will be in line with the unveiling of Vivo X60 flagship phone.

Vivo had introduced Funtouch OS v10 in December last year. Since then, the OS has received multiple updates to add new features. Based on Android, Funtouch OS 10 brought multiple custom features for Vivo users.

Custom OSes have been around for quite some time even though some brands have moved to push stock Android-like interfaces. Motorola and HMD Global (Nokia) have bare minimum customisations. Brands such as Xiaomi (MIUI) and Samsung (OneUI) have continued to push heavy customisations.

Customisations help OEMs push new features exclusive to their users. It also brings uniqueness to the interface. Poor execution or optimisations, however, could lead to a bad user experience – one of the reasons why many users have sought after stock Android-like experience.
