Vivo unveils OriginOS, new Android skin with tons of new features, optimisations

Vivo has officially announced the launch of its new Android skin, OriginOS. The new custom skin succeeds Vivo’s Funtouch OS that runs on almost all of its smartphones. As expected, OriginOS brings a variety of new features, optimisations, and of course, visual overhaul.

One of the main highlights of OriginOS is reimagined widgets. Similar to Apple’s, the Android skin allows you to personalise widgets, like a sliding puzzle with different shapes. These widgets feature information from applications such as weather app, messaging app, and so on. OriginOS also has “nano alerts” to show notifications from an application featured in the widgets.

Vivo is also beautifying the wallpaper experience. The new Android skin allows you to choose different backgrounds with a realistic look and feel to it. For instance, a sky background will feature different weather effects such as wind and clouds. Vivo claims these clouds are shot from different regions and will dynamically change, reports AndroidAuthority.

The OriginOS can also automatically optimise depending on the time of the day. For instance, wallpaper can be brightest during the day and gradually fade to dark in the dark. Users will also have the flexibility to alter the animation speed.

Vivo says OriginOS features at least 26 gesture combinations. It also has a SuperCard which allows users to easily make mobile payments. For further performance improvements, OriginOS packs a Multi-Turbo 5.0, which is said to be a collection of memory optimisation techniques. The new Android skin also brings better RAM optimisations and improved app load speeds, says a GSMArena report.

As of now, there is no word on the availability of OriginOS. We can expect the software to debut alongside the next flagship smartphone launch.
