With 2 billion active users, WhatsApp is the world’s most popular instant messaging platform. The introduction of features such as status, voice calling, video calling, and UPI payments has helped WhatsApp trump SMS, becoming the primary means of communication for many. It also promises data privacy with end-to-end encryption. To cater to such a large user base, WhatsApp regularly pushes out updates for newer devices while it stops working on very old devices. WhatsApp has now announced that it will end support for older versions of Android and iOS.

WhatsApp to stop working on these devices

As per a report by GizmoChina, WhatsApp has announced that it will soon stop working on devices running Android OS 5.0 or below. Moreover, iPhones are also set to be affected as it will drop support for devices running on iOS 12 or below. The devices running on the aforementioned firmware will not receive any updates, new features or security improvements. Therefore, it is crucial that you update your Android phone or iPhone to the latest software version to continue to receive support from WhatsApp.
