Xiaomi this year made a mark in the smartphone industry by launching handsets with 108-megapixel sensors and 120x digital zoom. However, the firm seems ready to take strides in the camera segment as it has apparently made a camera sensor that can take up to 300% more light and can deliver up to 20% more clarity in images.

Based on Xiaomi’s and tipster Digital Chat Station on Weibo, the new lens by the firm has “a super-large aperture, which increases the light input by 300%”. The 20% clarity is due to the new image stabilisation tech made by the firm. The company, however, has not yet given details on the f number for the aperture but it might just be one of the best sensors for night mode.

Not sure which
mobile to buy?

In the video posted by Xiaomi, the lens comes out of the phone body just like a point-and-shoot zoom camera, or something that you remember was in Samsung Galaxy K Zoom. A moving telephoto lens can give users more options to shoot as compared to what you get from a fixed telephoto lens that’s available in smartphones these days.

For now, it is not for sure when or if this camera tech will make its way to the end users inside a smartphone. However, the fact that the company has already built a prototype, says a lot about its plans for the coming future. The firm has already been testing a foldable smartphone. A recent report also suggested the firm to be working on a 200W charging speed.
